In the design’s conception and throughout its hand-crafted construction, Vancamelbecke gives full expression to the three complementary passions - for engineering, craftsmanship and art - that set him apart from the mainstream in contemporary Belgian design.

“We live in a world dominated by consumer products, where beauty is often only skin-deep – a thin, plastic veneer that masks poor quality beneath the surface. This project gave me a unique artistic opportunity to turn everything inside out – to expose the beauty and form in the structure itself and to remind us that true beauty comes from what’s inside us – as individuals and as a society. ” Vancamelbecke says.

 

“Between The Lines” evolved from initial work for another project - the “Jetty” chest of three drawers, which when completed will be clothed in a sculpted aluminum skin.
