BENDING THE RULES

AN OCCASIONAL TABLE IN STEEL & STAINLESS STEEL

An aficionado of Pablo Picasso, who famously advised aspiring artists to, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist”,  Vancamelbecke gives his own passionate and provocative response in this piece.

In the “Bending The Rules” table, he triumphantly rejects the conventions that dictate our definitions of how a table should look, posing searching questions; What is furniture and what is art? Is there a line between them? If so, is it a straight line?

The elegant engineering concept of the design, which creates a perfectly stable platform using the pure mathematical integrity of a tripod form, is capped with a subtly curved, gloriously reflective top, hand crafted from a single piece of stainless steel. The result is a sculptural piece that generates an almost ethereal atmosphere around itself.

The table is designed and produced to remain viable for generations of future owners – a shining and potent challenge to what Vancamelbecke calls, “The disaster of the throw-away mind-set.”
